Muang Thong United opened the defence of their Thai Premier League title with a 2-1 win at Si Sa Ket yesterday.
In yesterday's other match, TTM Phichit, formerly TTM Samut Sakhon, secured a 2-1 victory at Navy Rayong.
At Si Sa Ket Physical Education College, Muang Thong dominated from the start before Christian Kouakouyao gave the champions the lead in the 35th minute.
Shortly after the interval, the Kirins got their second goal when Soumahoro Yaya lobbed Si Sa Ket goal-keeper Poosit Pongsurat.
The Koupreys cut the deficit through Piyawat Thongmaen. They then piled pressure on the visitors and Brazilian striker Valci Taisira Junior squandered several chances.
Thailand goalkeeper Kawin Thamsatchanan and defenders Nataporn Phanrit and Panupong Wongsa were in good form to deny the promoted side an equaliser.
At Rayong Main Stadium, TTM Phichit got two goals from Frank Adams in the 31st minute and Lion Guatta in the 88th minute.
Navy pulled one back from Suttinun Nontee after 39 minutes.
