Games could be cancelled

Breaking news from Siam Sport via the MTUFC fan site:

All games in 'Bangkok and vicinity' could be cancelled this week, because of the political protests due to take place in the capital.

By my reckoning, the affected TPL games would be:

MTU Vs TOT CAT

Thai Port V Bangkok Glass

Police United V Buriram 'show us the money' PEA

BEC Tero Vs TTM Pichit

I'm not sure if the authorities class Chonburi as 'Bangkok and Vicinity' or not. Probably not.

In the lower leagues Air Force United and PTT would have their respective home games cancelled, as would all teams in the Bangkok region of Division 2.

What is particularly disappointing about this cancellation - if it is confirmed - is that this is the opening set of fixtures for the top two divisions. Close season in Thailand is far longer than in the west so it's been a long wait already.

If the fixtures are cancelled, it's understandable. The protests last year caused true havoc in Bangkok and the authorities want to take no chances. On the other hand, MTU played Chula United away last season with a red shirt protest nearby and there was not a hint of trouble.

Let's wait and see what happens.
